How to donate to Webdiary

Since becoming independent, many Webdiarists have asked: how can we help - you must need money?

Yes we do and you can help. The great majority of our costs involve the salaries of journalists and editing staff – see the Webdiary Management Updates - who keep Webdiarists up-to-date and interactive with breaking and background news, opinion and comment like no other site.

As Jalal Jalali said recently:

Wayne, Margo et al, the Webdiary is getting better and better. I used to buy a newspaper on daily basis, I have stopped and I do not see any urge in doing so.

I will second Justin's comment and say thank you.

You can support the work of Webdiary through a regular donation which will help build our capacity for planning and development; to strengthen independent publishing and achieve long term change. Or you can make a one-off donation whenever you feel like it.

We're considering offering listing on a donors' page by way of receipt, or if you'd prefer, by email receipt or post. Let us know in the comments on this page what you think.

Once public donations begin arriving, Webdiary’s accounts will be regularly posted on the site. Webdiary is not registered as a deductible gift recipient.

How to donate:

By cheque or money order to:

Webdiary Pty Ltd
PO Box 1031
Spit Junction NSW 2088

By internet banking transfer:

Consider setting this up as a recurring donation.
Account Name: Webdiary Pty Ltd
BSB: 032-024 (Westpac Martin Place)
Account No: 459998
Reference: Your name

PS: our assumption will be that any comments submitted here relating to potential donations by you will be not for publication, unless you specifically tell us to publish!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

What I can when I can. Anything to keep WD going. Even though (sniff!) I fear a pandering to the ultra right is taking root. Still maintaining the rage...and starting to build a healthy head of steam on the next one!!!

Margo: Thank you, Stephen. I'm aspiring to civil discourse on Webdiary, no matter what your beliefs, and the endless quest for common ground. The Webdiary community in all its political colours never fails to keep me on my toes in pursuing those goals.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

I was delighted to send you guys a postal order today! (and by coincidence - or is it synchronicity?? - I also joined the CPSU today).

Glad to be a part of Webdiary on the odd occasion. I really appreciate the diversity and astounding calibre of the articles/posts, and that fact that you exist!! I will probably contribute randomly (when I can) and would prefer to remain anon. Cheers.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Donations received in first two weeks:

$2,920 from 23 donors.

All for whom we have contact details got a note of thanks from Margo - for those who donated anonymously or where we don't have e-mail or other addresses, thanks to you too!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

G'day Margo & Jack.

Only just found you again. Look forward to enjoying Webdiary again.

ed Hamish: goodness mate. Glad to see you!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Righto, I've started donations of $25 per quarter. I've also put donations to Webdiary at the top of my Christmas wish list. I hope you hear from my relatives next month!

Margo: Onya Anthony!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

I wish I could give more. Keep up the good work; you are vital to our democracy in the current climate.

PS: I'm with Michael Coleman.

Margo: Hi Colin. All according to his or her means, I say. Thank you for your support. Every little bit postpones the time I run out of money to keep Webdiary going, and that means we get more time to build circulation, an advertising revenue base and work on a prospectus for people to invest in Webdiary.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Hi Team. I have set up a direct deposit and I'm happy for you all to know you have my financial as well as moral support. Webdiary is a part of my day and I really appreciate everything you do. I don't need or want to be listed on any donor page.

Warm regards.

Margo: Thank you Michael!!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

How about Paypal as well - that's a single click solution.

GM David: Paypal and credit card transactions are not at all easy to implement on this temporary site, but relatively easy on our own new site (soon!).

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Ed: What level of transparency will WD submit to in respect of donations. I'd never suggest identifying donors on privacy grounds, but what about the quantum?

GM David: We said we'd publish our accounts regularly, and that's what we'll do, indicating all sources of income in quantum - and identifying any donors who want to be identified.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Donations total to date: $7650 in 79 donations by 69 people, 6 of them anonymously.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Hi Hamish transferred $75.00 last night. Thanks for keeping on with Webdiary. Don't need acknowledgement or identification on lists etc.

Hamish: Thankyou Ruth!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Hamish, I mentioned today on a post to the 'Don't go away yet' thread that I would send a small donation now, and hopefully in the future as well. I'm sending a cheque for $50 today. I don't need acknowledgement or identification on any donor lists etc.

Thank you for what you are doing!!

Thank you Helen!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Margo, when I'm in town tomorrow I will send you $25. As Ian and I are pensioners we may not be able to send anything on a regular basis but when we can we certainly will. Anything to keep you going as we need your input.

ed Hamish: thanks so much Kathleen. It all helps.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Just come across this site, and I'll contribute later this month - when I get paid!

Please don't just do PayPal. I have never been able to get that working. Bank transfer or cheque are both fine with me.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

I am sorry I haven't contributed financially yet, and I feel I am doing an injustice on my faith and this great service. I will, like Sally, send 20 dollars a month to assist your website.

I sincerely wish that this website does succeed to become a beacon for all communities to express their views, and get an understanding of other views.

Margo: Hi Mahmoud, and thank you!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Hi Margo, as of December 1 there is a 'subscription' of $20 per month coming your way. Keep up the great work.

Thank you!!

Margo: Thank YOU, Sally. I can guarantee we'll make it into 2006, at least. Thank you to all volunteers for making it happen. And thank you to all the donors so far - you're keeping me financially afloat in the short term while Webdiary's money team works on longer term solutions...

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Four week total for donations: $3,440 from 36 people.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Pleased to find you again Margo (and contributors) after several futile attempts to track you down. Donation to follow to keep the dream alive.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

I consider this site one of the best newspapers, so expect my monthly subscription (plus a back-payment for last month).

Look forward to the IPO!

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Hi Margo, Webdiary is the sort of journalism we will desperately need when all our news is produced by the commercial conga line.

I've poked a small donation into your account and will try to do so every few months.

cheers

Brian Todd
machinegunkeyboard.com

Margo: Hi Brian, and thank you. We'll be moving to the permanent site very soon, with any luck, and then the hard work really begins. It helps a lot to know so many people want this to work. Thank again.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Margo. I'm glad to see Webdiary going well. I open up Webdiary every morning when I get to work and appreciate seeing your picture and articles.

Margo, to put a bit of an exciting spin on this, how much would I have to contribute to be able to take you out to dinner? Call it a "Decent Proposal" if you will.

Margo: Hi Melvin, and thanks for the positive feedback. Re dinner, I've never had such an offer. I'd need to consult my MD about the ethics of that.

re: How to donate to Webdiary

Donation transferred tonight. Thank you Margo, keep up the good work - we need you! Will contribute whenever possible.

Margo: Thank you Alison! Webdiary is still standing after nearly 3 months, thanks to Webdiarists' support for the independent Webdiary, and circulation is steadily buiilding. I'll do my very best to hang on in there.
