Money laundering in Australia
Current estimates are that the value of money being laundered through Australian banks by criminal enterprises approaches $12 billion per year. This amount is equivalent to about 1% of Australia’s GDP - except that it adds nothing to it. In the roughest of terms, it suggests that as many as 1 out of 100 Australian adults may be involved in criminal activity.

Two Old Musos and Jesus
“Ok, this is going to be controversial. No, it isn’t, just an old guy blowing off some egotistical steam”. This is part of the internal conversation that I started when Margo asked whether I wanted to present what I regarded as a private/business project as a Webdiary piece. What follows is the story of Roger Fedyk's musical journey and his recent recording of an album of contemporary Christian music.

'Scorcher: the dirty politics of climate change'
It is tempting to lay the blame on Howard and his government for what has been done in our name but, at the end of the day, it is the Australian public with whom much of the fault lies. We have been gullible and self-absorbed. As a nation, we do not really take the threat of global warming seriously. The disengagement by the public at large has allowed our politicians of both major political persuasions to give our big polluters a free ride.

Review of Prime Minister's Body Guard, Dead Man Talking, by John McArdle

"Some books I love from page one, some books I hate just as quickly. John McArdle's book is in neither category. It is a ripping good yarn and it is true." Roger Fedyk.

All's not well in the Garden of Eden

"The marketing of modern Christianity is an interesting object of study. Churches under the benign and supportive aegis of conservative administrations here and overseas have seen their role expand and intertwine evermore closely with the government bureaucracy. The dismantling of the CES and the awarding of lucrative financial contracts for those services to the private sector had the churches scrambling over themselves to get their share of the financial spoils." Brokeback Mountain - a review

"Ang Lee has directed a film quite unlike anything that comes out of the US. There is a very disciplined way to Lee’s direction in that he stays true to his characters in every shot. So powerful is the Lee technique that it is easy to miss some of the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery because your focus is riveted on the characters." Roger Fedyk

The real war is queer as folk

"Jensen uses his high profile position to make some extraordinary claims. He claims to speak for God. He claims prescience as to the ultimate fate of the Anglican Church. He calls for like-minded person’s to engage in a struggle where either the Anglican Church perishes or those Anglicans who are homosexuals do." Roger Fedyk
